Marvin VanDerveer

Marvin C. VanDerveer, 83, 1023 Eighth Ave., died Friday at an Omaha hospital.

VanDerveer was a longtime Council Bluffs resident and retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1961. He was a member of the Episcopal Church, American Legion Rainbow Post No. 2 and Gen. Grenville M. Dodge Post No. 737, VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Julia B. VanDerveer; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Kennedy, Council Bluffs; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are pending at Cutler Funeral Home.

Marvin C. VanDerveer, 83, 1023 Eighth Ave., died Friday at an Omaha hospital following an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Council Bluffs.

VanDerveer was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Elks Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1961.

Survivors include his wife, Julia; a daughter, Mary Kennedy of Council Bluffs; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Cutler Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Scott Rathman, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Plumer Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cutler Chapel. The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by VFW Post No. 737.
