Funeral Services Conducted For Fred Thieschafer
Funeral services were conducted for Fred J. Thieschafer Tuesday, March 15 at 1:30 p. m. from Raynor Chapel and at 2 p. m. from Trinity Lutheran Church for Fred J. Thieschafer, who died Saturday, March 12 in Council Bluffs. The Rev. Paul Sparling, astor of Trinity Lutheran Church officiated.
Music was by Walter Schmidt, soloist, with Mrs. Carl Buch, organist. Ushers were Earl Nansel and Henry Pain III. Flower bearers were Mrs. Earl Livengood, Mrs. Julius Buch, Mrs. Steward Osterholm, Mrs. LeRoy Kruse, Mrs. Chester Meredith and Mrs. Ervin Kizzier.
Honorary pallbearers were O. L. Mintle, Charles Davies, Leon Wait, S. E. Ward, J. L. Anthony, Frank Buffington, Alex Hofmann and Herman Kruse. Active pallbearers were William Correll, LeRoy Kruse, Carl Buch, Julius Buch, Leonard Scheel and Frederick Bishop. Burial was in Plumer Cemetery, Oak Township, Glenwood.
Fred Thieschafer was born October 10, 1877 in Oldenburg, Germany, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Dietrich Thieschafer. In the spring of 1881, he immigrated with his parents to the United States and settled in Council Bluffs. In 1889, the Thieschafer family moved to Mills County. He had been a resident of this county ever since this date. He went with his parents to the Plumer Settlement Lutheran Church and was confirmed there on Easter Sunday, 1895 at the age of 18 by the Rev. H. E. Hoff.
On October 12, 1905, he was united in marriage to Amelia Gosch. To his union five children were born, one dying in infancy. During this time he became a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Mineola. Since his retirement in 1946, he became a member of this Trinity Lutheran Church of Glenwood. In 1945, he was elected the first president of this Trinity Lutheran congregation and served in that capacity until 1948. Not only did he hold positions in this church but he was also active in many civic projects. He was a director of the Farm Bureau, member of the County Production Marketing Association and director of the Federal Land Bank.
On February 26th he entered Jennie Edmunson Hospital for emergency surgery. On Saturday, March 12, at 5 p. m. he died in sleep at the age of 77 years, six months and two days.
Surviving besides his wife are his three daughters and one son: Mrs. Luella King of Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. Donald Christine Cole of Council Bluffs; Mrs. Arnold Lucille Kiersch of Silver City; and Arthur of Glenwood. There are five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
There also survive, two sisters: Mrs. Christine Schoening of Belgrade, Nebr., and Mrs. Louise Gosch of Missouri Valley. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry, who died several years ago.

GLENWOOD — Services will be Tuesday for Fred J. Thieschafer, 77, at 1:30 p.m. at Raynor Funeral Home and 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Paul Sparling will officiate. Burial will be at Plumer Cemetery in Oak Township.
Mr. Thieschafer died Saturday at a Council Bluffs hospital.

Survivors include: widow, Amelia; son, Arthur J. of Glenwood; three daughters, Mrs. Luella King of Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. Donald Cole of Council Bluffs; Mrs. Arnold Kiersch of Silver City; two sisters, Mrs. Mark Schoening of Belgrade, Neb. and Mrs. Louise Gosh of Missouri Valley; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
