Chris Plumer, a pioneer citizen of Mills county, died quite suddenly last Saturday noon at his home in Glenwood. He was ill but a very short time before death came.
Mr Plumer was born Oct. 8, 1838, in Hanover, Germany. In 1840 he came to America with his parents and located at California, Mo., and in 1851 they came to Mills county, where the deceased lived for 59 years.
In 1863 Mr. Plumer was married to Miss Anna Schoening. To them nine children were born: five of whom are living — Mrs. George Pullman, Sidney; Ferdinand Plumer, Macedonia; Gus Plumer, Council Bluffs, Charles Plumer, Glenwood; Mrs J M Donelan of Glenwood. The wife and mother died August 4, 1880 and on March 2, 1882, Mr Plumer was married to Mrs Sarah Askwig, who with the five children and an adopted daughter, Laura, survives him.
Last spring Mr. Plumer and his wife moved to Glenwood from the farm, where he had lived continuously for 59 years. He was a life long member of the Lutheran church of West Oak township.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 o'clock, at the home and were conducted by the Rev. R. W. Burton of the Glenwood Congregational church. Burial was made in cemetery in the Plumer settlement. The pall bearers were J F Record, S J King, Edward Sivers, J W Carter, Dr F M Shriver and Frank Ridgeway.
The services at the residence and at the cemetery were largely attended by the sorrowing relatives and friends of the deceased.
