CHARLES C. PLUMER, SR.

Charles C. Plumer, Sr., son of Christoph F. and Anna (nee Schoening) Plumer, was born July 2, 1875, in Mills county, Iowa. In his infancy he was received as a member of the Lutheran Church by the sacrament of baptism. His parents were charter members of Salem Lutheran Church in the area north of Glenwood, known as the Plumer Settlement.

He received his elementary and high school education in the Mills county school system. He attended business college at Quincy, Ill. For a time he served as a member of the Mills county board of supervisors. He was a life-long resident of Mills county, engaged in farming.

On Dec. 30, 1903, he was united in holy matrimony to Augusta Pauline Turk. To this union were born six children: Mrs. Pauline Carter of Las Vegas, Nev., Charles C. Plumer, Jr., of Glenwood, Mrs. Luella Nevin of Omaha, Mrs. Marie Ewing of Wayne, Neb., Albert Plumer of Glenwood and Alfred Plumer of Council Bluffs.

Since October of 1966, he had been in residence at the Glen Haven Home, being in frail health. He died July 10, 1967, attaining the age of 92 years and eight days.

He is the last member of his family, being preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters. There remain to survive him his widow, six children, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and other relatives.

Services were held from Trinity Lutheran Church July 13 at 2 p.m. Pastor D. J. Crockett was the officiant. Graveside service was at the Plumer cemetery north of Glenwood. Arrangements were in charge of Raynor Lett & Kent.

Music was provided by Mrs. Carl Buch. Mrs. Evelyn Hopp kept the register book. Ushers were Carl Buch and Levon Rohrberg. Flower bearers were Mrs. James P. Donelan, Mrs. Jack Drew, Mrs. Luella King and Mrs. C. E. Myers.

Casket bearers were W. F. Bichel, Clarence Roenfeld, Ormand Schoening, Fred Schoening, Franklin Pitzer and Virgil Rohrberg.
