Ervin A. Kreft Is Found Dead

Ervin August Kreft, 68, Route 2, former veteran secretary of the Lewis Central Community School District Board, was found dead Friday in the machine shed on his farm with a shotgun wound in his forehead.

Investigators said the wound apparently was self-inflicted. Near the body was an over-and-under .22-410 gun.

Kreft had gone outdoors to do some farm chores, taking the gun with him. Mrs. Kreft told the officer that a skunk had been bothering some of the farm animals.

Failed to Return

When he failed to return for breakfast, his wife looked for him and found the body. Dr. J. V. Angel, county medical examiner pronounced him dead.

A family doctor told the deputy that Kreft had been under treatment for dizzy spells and was despondent the last year.

Kreft Elementary School in Twin City Plaza is named after him. Kreft had served as secretary of the Lewis Central Board of Education for 35 years — from 1932 to 1967.
