Kenneth “Elmer” Johnson, 68, of Council Bluffs died Sept. 18 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.
He was born May 29, 1934, in Missouri Valley to Martin and Alice (Holt) Johnson. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He farmed south of Council Bluffs and was plant foreman for WITCO, retiring in 1996 after 36 years service. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Country Church, Farm Bureau and Mid-America Woodcarvers Association in Omaha. He was a former 4H leader.
Mr. Johnson and his wife, Lona (Woksa), were married May 14, 1960.
Survivors in addition to his wife include one daughter, Rhonda (Johnson) Gunther, and husband, John, of Lee's Summit, Mo.; one son, Roger, and wife, Mary, of Council Bluffs; three sisters, Elnora Anderson of Zion, Ill., Ruth Johnson of Redwing, Minn., and Alice Kennedy and husband, Fred, of Arlington, Texas; two brothers, Everett of Waukegan, Ill., and Bob and wife, Lois, of Missouri Valley; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Chapel. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Joe Harter of St. Paul's Evangelical Country Church officiating. Burial will be in Plumer Settlement Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at St. Peter's Parish Hall, 307 W. Pierce St.
Memorials may be offered to St. Paul's Evangelical Country Church or American Cancer Society.
