Mrs. Caroline Hoppe Green, age 77 years, of Council Bluffs, a pioneer of Pottawattamie county died at the Mercy Hospital Thursday after a short illness.
Mrs. Green was the daughter of August and Wilhemenia Hoppe, she was one of ten children, 7 girls and 3 boys. The Hoppe family emmigrated from Germany to the United States in 1885, settling on a farm near Lincoln, Nebraska.
In 1893, at Lincoln, she was united in marriage to Henry F. Green. Seven years later they moved to a farm near Council Bluffs. They observed their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1943. Mr. Green preceded her in death 3 years ago.
She was the mother of nine sons and one daughter—all living: Carl Green of Glenwood; Howard Green, Gus Green, Henry Green, Herbert Green and Victor Green, all of Council Bluffs, Irwin Green of Salinas, Calif.; and Chester Green and Grover Green, of Los Angeles; one daughter, Mrs. Rees Laughman of Topeka, Kansas; one brother, August Hoppe of Lincoln, Nebr.; five sisters, Mrs. Edith Busboom, Mrs. Louise Ruesch, Mrs. Marie Lahm, Mrs. Gustie Schlaebitz, all of Lincoln, Nebraska; Mrs. Bertha Sprague of San Mateo, California; 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home. Burial in Plumer Settlement Cemetery, Rev. Frey of West End Lutheran Church officiating. Six of the sons were pallbearers for their Mother.
All of the children excepting the daughter were present for their mother's funeral. Mrs. Laughman is a patient at a Topeka hospital.
