Mrs. Margaret Bauerkemper, aged 78 years, a pioneer woman of this county, who came to America from Germany by sail boat and later came to Pottawattamie county by steamboat, died of complications Wednesday night at her home in Lewis township, after an illness that covered a period of four and one-half years. She was born in Germany and had lived in this county for sixty years.
She is survived by eight children, Mrs. John Speer of Silver City, Mrs. Anna Potts of Carthage, Mo., Mrs. Emma Market of Silver City, Miss Louise Bauerkemper of Lewis township, Mrs. Julia Magnes of Houghton, S. D., William Bauerkemper of Minden, George H. Bauerkemper of Lewis township and E. H. Bauerkemper of Lewis township. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Mary Goff, of Chicago, Ill., and one brother, Henry Miller, of Colby, Wash. Funeral announcements later.
She also leaves fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The funeral will be held Saturday with short services at the home at noon and at the Lutheran church in Plumer Settlement at 1 o'clock, Rev. Hoff of Treynor officiating. Burial will be in Plumer cemetery.
Grandma Bauerkemper, mother of Mrs. J. B. Speer and Mrs. D. L. Markel of this place, passed away last night at her home eight miles east of Council Bluffs.
The folks here were called by telephone and hastened to her side in response. Mrs. Bauerkemper has been very poorly for a good while, and was quite well along in years, so that her death was not altogether unexpected. No funeral arrangements have been announced at this time.
Funeral services for Mr. Margaret Bauerkempeer, Pottawattamie county pioneer who died Wednesday at the age of 78, will be held Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the Plumer Settlement church in Lewis township. Short services will be held at the residence at noon. Rev. Hoff will officiate. Interment will be in Plumer Settlement cemetery.
Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Baueerkemper were held Saturday, with short services at the home at noon and services at the Lutheran church at Plumer settlement at 1 oclock, with Rev. Hoff of Treynor in charge. Burial was in the Plumer cemetery. Music was furnished by Mrs. Krumenacher and Mrs. Ward. Pallbearers were Henry Schultz, Henry Hobus, John Beck, CLyde Stoker, Henry Unverfeerth and William Schley. Three small granddaughters of Mrs. Bauerkemper acted as flower girls.
Mrs. Margaret Bauerkemper, resident of Lewis township, Pottawattamie county, passed away Wednesday night, January 9, following an illness of above four years. She has been a resident of her home county for more than sixty years. She came, in her youth, to America from Germany and soon after made her home in Pottawattamie county.
Mrs. Bauerkemper was 78 years of age and is survived by eight children. Two of these children are now and have been for several years residents of Mills county near and in Silver City. These residents are Mrs. John B. Speer and Mrs. D. L. Markel. The other children are Mrs. Anna Putts, Carthage, Mo.; Miss Louise Bauerkemper of Lewis township; Mrs. Julia Magnes, Houghton, S. D.; William Bauerkemper, Minden, Ia.; George H. and E. H. Bauerkemper of Lewis township. Besides these children she is survived by 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, a sister, Mrs. Mary Goff, of Chicago, a brother, Henry Miller, of Colby, Wash.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 1 p. m from the home and from the Lutheran church in the Plumer settlement, conducted by Rev. Hoff of Treynor. Burial was in the Plumer cemetery.
